“For Action and Words go hand in hand,
… and all good Love is so free.
But remember that Action speaks louder than Words,
… and that’s how Love should be.”

I had a man tell me that the problem women have is that we get more hung up on a man’s words than we do their actions.

He meant that we don’t always see if a man walks his talk. We get all caught up in the words, and ignore the value of his actions. How many of us get snowballed by what a man says to us? All those sweet nothings he whispers, the perfect comment at the perfect moment, and the feelings those words give us. But how many of us actually put more weight or at least equal weight on what they display for actions?

I’d venture to say not many of us. And why do we do that?

That is the real question. Perhaps some of us just get so caught up in the fact that a man is merely talking to begin with. And even more so the fact that they are talking to us. How many of us walk around life starving from lack of conversation, stimulating conversation, with a man? When we first meet someone we are intrigued by what makes them click - how they view life. We compare interests and goals. We even analyze whether or not we can see ourselves sharing our life with them.

Let’s face it - as women we crave conversation. The saying that we never run out of something to talk about is accurate. We always have something to say and want someone to listen. So why don’t we look at a man’s actions? Probably because very few actions mirror the words we hear. We like the way their words make us feel. And only after the relationship is over do we realize that we were fools in taking only what they said to us. Does that make us terrible people? No, but it sure does make us feel like a fool at times.

Another man told me the secret - men know what women want to hear so they tell us, in order for them to get what it is they want. I don’t know if it’s that calculated, but it would make some sense, even if it’s instinctual. If we were to start judging a man by his words and actions, what would be the outcome?

For me, the outcome would be sweet. I wouldn’t feel disappointed or used, less naïve, and more respected. I can say that every time I’ve valued only the words I heard was the times that I was let down. And who let me down? Me - I am the one that rationalized why they never called me, or sent me flowers, or sent me love notes, or just plain put in as much effort as I did. I settled and that hurt me in the end.

So what have I done about it? Well it’s still a practicing effort, but I don’t just listen to what a man says. I look to see the connection in a man’s actions. Are they putting as much of an effort into the relationship? Do I feel that they really feel what they say they are feeling? And to a fault, I am skeptical at best that they truly mean what they say. Our best ally is our gut feeling - and we are very guilty of ignoring it. When we ignore it we are destined to get hurt. I’ve seen women that only give as much as they receive from a man, they never share more than what is shared with them, and they never let a man know how they truly feel. I am not suggesting that is the solution, but to a degree there is something to be said for it. Personally, I can’t do that. I know only one way to be - up front, open, and loving. To hold back makes me think I am robbing myself of the full experience of sharing with a man - it feels like betrayal.

But the catch 22 is I am much more vulnerable to being hurt. As one of my friends says to me - you’ll learn after you’ve been hurt a 100 times. Well I never claimed to be a quick learner - but a 100? I don’t think one’s heart can bear that much hurt.

Attached is the PDF Format article about “The Natural History of Oxygen” straight from my record. Written by Malcolm Dole (March 4 1903 - November 29 1990).

Attachment: The Natural History of Oxygen.pdf

I see that the Malaysians have many opportunities getting online these days and interesting information such this is extensively available. Let’s see how much they know about the outside world other than crap politics issues and very bad school textbook syllabus. Let me observe how many Malaysians students know more than what they are learning in schools.

And I want to see how much of these students will be as arrogant as they can be when they know as much about oxygen in this 23-pages-long article (either they even read it comprehensively or ignorantly). I know a lot of smart Malaysians students who are totally snob, even knowing that their parents are Head School or the president of PIBG.

Dreams are not easy to follow. It’s true. It is easy to say that we want to be this and that when we grow up (when we were little), but the journey to what we always wanted is never easy. The biggest barrier is giving up. Maybe not totally for some, but that is actually the biggest barrier of mine.

When I was 5 years old, I wanted to be a teacher because I observed my kindergarten teachers are having fun playing with us. Then at 9, I said to dad that I want to be a scientist because I managed to make ’stuff’ in the kitchen. When I was 12, I said I want to be an astronomer because I developed a huge interest in galaxies and stars. By the time I reached high school where we were exposed to chemistry and biology, I told mom that I want to do biotechnology, particularly in drug designing to cure diseases. But as I step into University, I found Biotechnology degree doesn’t cover much the molecular part of cells and nothing too extensive in organic chemistry. I found they are less challenging, hence I took the road less travelled among my friends.

Molecular Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry.

I would like to thank heaps (heaps to infinity) to my prents, mom and dad, and teachers from primary school to high school and support and genius teasings from siblings and fellow scholars. The first strongest person that bring who we are today is ourselves and secondly - family.

Do not be afraid to dream. Which I am still dreaming eventhough I fall and failed many times, later we can always rise again. I am dreaming of doing Postgrad, eventhough I am still at the beginning of my final Underegrad year. But, the amazing thing is, who knows I can come this far? God knows and only I know. Trust me, no one else does. (Mom complains that she should of have more children LOL) Where do I want to go after Postgrad? I’m still dreaming and it seems that the dream doesn’t want to end.

P/S: I totally drop of becoming the astronomer because most part of Physics do not make any sense to my brain understanding

The cruel cytochrome C P450 - cause cell apoptosis (cell death)

An interesting topic, as we all learn about cancer. As everybody is talking about it. I will tell you one problem, what we (the scientists) are facing in making this world a better place - Evolution! Evolution and cytochrome C P450 and cancer cells. It is not easy to design drugs. The best drug I know have side effects. Maybe some little side effects, but there are. I learnt that nothing is perfect in this world. Neither you, me nor all the matters, the non-living things, in this world. Why is this so? This thinking brings me back to one of the Physics ‘ Action and Reaction Law of Effect (The Newton’s Third Law). I am very sure we can actually find this kind of ‘law’ from the Quran. But unfortunately, we kind of short of Muslims who are as good as Ibn Sina, Ibn Batutta, El Zahrawi, al Farabi, Jabir Ibn Haiyan (Geber) and so many of them long time ago (list of Muslim Scientists), between 8th and 16th centuries which this time also known as the Islamic Golden Age. I know why…because the Muslims are busy struggling to live.

I would really like to say more about Evolution and how it makes our life more miserable now and of course, in the future. Evolution has its good and bad. Nothing is perfect.

A Malay poem from our beloved former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, as a reminder for myself and those who can read Malay.

Perjuangan Yang Belum Selesai - Dr. Mahathir Mohamad

Sesungguhnya tidak ada yang lebih menyayatkan
dari melihat bangsaku dijajah
Tidak ada yang lebih menyedihkan
dari membiarkan bangsaku dihina

Air mata tiada ertinya
sejarah silam tiada maknanya
sekiranya bangsa tercinta terpinggir
dipersenda dan dilupakan

Bukan kecil langkah wira bangsa
para pejuang kemerdekaan
bagi menegakkan kemuliaan
dan darjat bangsa
selangkah beerti mara
mengharung sejuta dugaan

Biarkan bertatih
asalkan langkah itu yakin dan cermat
bagi memastikan negara
merdeka dan bangsa terpelihara
air mata sengsara
mengiringi setiap langkah bapa-bapa kita

Tugas kita bukan kecil
kerana mengisi kemrdekaan
rupanya lebih sukar dari bermandi
keringat dan darah menuntutnya
.

Lagi pula apalah ertinya kemerdekaan
kalau bangsaku asyik mengia dan menidakkan,
mengangguk dan membenarkan,
kerana sekalipun bangganya negara
kerana makmur dan mewahnya,
bangsaku masih melata
dan meminta-minta di negaranya sendiri

.
Bukan kecil tugas kita
meneruskan perjuangan kemerdekaan kita
kerana rupanya selain memerdekakan,
mengisi kemerdekaan itu jauh lebih sengsara

Bangsaku bukan kecil hati dan jiwanya
bukankah sejak zaman berzaman
mereka menjadi pelaut, pengembara
malah penakluk terkemuka?
Bukankah mereka sudah mengembangkan sayap,
menjadi pedagang dan peniaga

selain menjadi ulama dan
ilmuan terbilang?
Bukankah bangsaku pernah mengharung
samudera menjajah dunia yang tak dikenal
Bukankah mereka pernah menjadi
wira serantau yang tidak mengenal
erti takut dan kematian?
Di manakah silapnya hingga bangsaku
berasa begitu kecil dan rendah diri?
Apakah angkara penjajah?
Lalu bangsaku mulai
melupakan kegemilangan silam
dan sejarah gemilang membina empayar

Tugas kita belum selesai rupanya
bagi memartabat dan
memuliakan bangsa
kerana hanya bangsa yang berjaya
akan sentiasa dihormati

Rupanya masih jauh dan berliku jalan kita
bukan sekadar memerdeka dan mengisinya
tetapi mengangkat darjat dan kemuliaan
buat selama-lamanya

Hari ini, jalan ini pasti semakin berliku
kerana masa depan belum tentu
menjanjikan syurga
bagi mereka yang lemah dan mudah kecewa

Perjuangan kita belum selesai
kerana hanya yang cekal dan tabah
dapat membina mercu tanda
bangsanya yang berjaya

The fuel price is going to increase inevitably. No matter how, every country in this world experience the same situation and no exception to Malaysia. So I read Malaysian’s online newspapers everyday, eventhough I spend 2/3 of my day with other readings to catch up, I see the Malaysian government has constantly reassures the nation that there will be no more fuel hikes this year, or any year in the future.

No more fuel hikes? - In my opinion, possibly, that will happen but by that time, Malaysian won’t belong to the Malaysians anymore.

One more thing about this issue - it is not satisfying enough how the Malaysians, in general, cope with new standard of living with the increasing of fuel prices. I don’t see how the media and Government try to uphold the spirit of spending the money and especially, food - prudently.

It is no use talking about inventing new electric cars, which eventually going make the Malaysians are even more arrogant. Good news, we create higher intellectual quality among Malaysians. But.. smart brain, first class technologies with some third-world-mentality? It is no use shouting and protesting over about low wages, high fares and the Ministry of Agriculture tries maintaining the rice prices with developing more GMO’s or fertilizers and which later on developing many new types of diseases and cancers. It is of course a good news for me, so I’d be able to make more drug business, but it is certainly not a good news for the humankind. Overall, we will create more and more political, moral issues and gaps between individual.

I think it is important for the higher power of Malaysian’s government to realise that, this is the time to educate, develop and support the nation to be a more self-sufficient and efficient citizen, no matter how high the fuel prices going to be in the future.

Perseverance is one of the main teaching in Islam, hence I want to see how far Malaysia can go with this. I suggest, every individual must play role helping each other out to improve our life style. The media must put on more tips and shows about this new way of living. Make it progressively and continously. I’m sure we have many good Malaysian chefs, doctors and nutritionist to educate the people. Malaysian’s government has to push the ignorant and stubborn Malaysians too, so eveybody can still live happily under current global fuel situation!

Or not…. I’m sure the Malaysia and the Malaysians will doom.

Third-world-mentality says: The doom’s day is drawing near, so we might of doom ourselves first.

I see the alternative, I suggest that we change the way we live now. Make the current circumstances as the driving force for us to change. But if we depend on others to amend, i.e. technology or the reformation of government’s systems, we will create more problems. It is either we improve ourselves or we improve others. But I see, if we improve ourselves, we certainly can become a better considerate human beings.

If not….don’t blame me if you lose in the battle half way through. Because I have the strong feeling that the arrogant Malaysian Government will still going to change their system anyway, instead of changing the attitude and mentality of the nation. Arrogance comes from power and the crave to be rich by taking the easy way out.

Well, I don’t think I will pray for people to make a good decision. But I pray for people to change, good way or bad way, that eventually will make them a better person. We can still avoid the bad way.

It starts now.

This is not the first time I put an entry about being thankful and grateful. I am not going to preach about what grateful is all about and how to be one. I am not going to preach about God and what He said about gratefulness. Most people I know ignore religion, so, no use to talk about it here.

Just expressing some thoughts from my daily observations. So, I’m working in the Hospital every Friday from 6pm to 9pm, voluntarily. I get paid by experience and lessons to learn.

The most important thing I learn every week is the value of gratefulness. I get “Thank you” from everybody I visit every moment. I get “Thank You” from patients, visitors, nurses, doctors, pink ladies, cleaners, receptionist. Apart from them, I’m not sure how it works, I get “Thank You” from my family.. But unfortunately, I hardly get “Thank You” from my very close friends, my flatmates and the one I care about the most. I hardly get “Thank You” from people I see and talk everyday. Maybe they think “Thank You” will get old and overated.

An ungrateful man is like a hog under a tree eating acorns, but never looking up to see where they come from. - Timothy Dexter

But it’s a human nature to forget. Even some religious people who pray five times a day and still not grateful for others. They think God is always beside them to help, and only necessary to thank Him alone.

Sometimes, I know some people, majority those who don’t believe in God are merely arrogant and think that they are too good, so self-effiecient and sufficient to be thankful. Arrogance is still one type of forgetfulness. These people forget where they came from.

I don’t care where you guys from - atheists or religious, but Thank You is never get overated, never will.

Whatever it is, I pray and wish hard so whatever type of people, one day, will come to one point where they can totally experience the true situation and feelings of becoming a greatful person. No matter what, good way or bad way, no matter how good or how bad that will be, I pray and wish they understand why and how.

Some don’t believe in praying. I am facing a great challenge of ungratefulness among people around me at the moment. Patient and perseverence will keep me going.

I just came back to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a week after few years in New Zealand. I saw many changes. Many positive changes as well as negative ones too. See, when I say something like this, some Malaysians would think, “ohhh..but no one is perfect~”

So that is one of the “third world mentality” person would say.

I am happy to have a great dinner at Chillies at KLCC staring all bright sky scrappers that night - hotels, apartment, business towers. Besides, I saw many Malaysians even as far as Johor have their own laptop and able to connect to the internet when working in the mobile phone store, some I saw in the Petaling Street, a group of friends hanging out at J.Co Doughnut with laptop and wireless internet broadband. I even easily get connected to the internet at KL Sentral via Secret Recipe Hotspot network - for free! I admit, I am impressed with what we have achieved.

But in the other hand, there was a non-stop and continous silly political issues about Anwar Ibrahim, Bala, Najib, Badawi apart from other social issues like poverty, “Cinta tiga Segi” (Hazwan”s)…I don’t see any obvious plan of Malaysia to send more contingents to the Olympic 2008, neither any improvement to increasing suburban poverty due to oil price. I don’t see the enthusiasm of our PM towards D8 meetings. Overall, I would say, most articles and news (40-50%) covered in the local newspapers are merely about Altantuya. Seriously, I don”t get the full good stories and true coverage of D8!

In general, the way Malaysians work out their way in daily life especially their work routine and ethic is not satisfying enough. I feel their selfishness behind their friendliness. I feel their doubt behind their reassurance. I feel their false behind their truth. I feel their irresponsibility behind their thirst and hunger of power.

I feel their insufficiency behind their hard working!

I feel that Malaysians are a group of egoists - because they know they have the First World Technology but unfortunately, they need to realise how bad it is to have the Third World Mentality.

Malaysia can live in great debt one day, or at least the development could only be achieved at certain level and reach plateau with constant and consistent balanced incoming income and debt.

This section is from the “Nature Cure: Philosophy and Practice Based on the Unity of Disease and Cure” book, by Henry Lindlahr.

If I were asked the question: “What do you consider the greatest benefit to be derived from the Nature Cure regimen?” I should answer: “The strengthening of willpower and self-control.”

This is the very purpose of life. Upon it depends all further achievement. Self-control is the master’s key to all higher development on the mental, moral and spiritual planes of being; but before we can exercise it on the higher planes, we must have learned to apply it on the lower plane, in the management and control of our physical appetites and habits. When we have learned to control these, higher development will come easy.

A good method for strengthening the willpower is autosuggestion. The most opportune moments in the twenty-four hours of the day for practicing this mental magic are those before dropping to sleep. At this time there is the least disturbance and interference from outside influences, the mind is most passive and susceptible to suggestion and impressions made under these favorable conditions upon the “phonograph records” of the subconscious mind are the most lasting and the most powerful to control physical, mental and moral activities.

When thoroughly relaxed, at rest and at peace, say to yourself: “Whatever duties confront me tomorrow, I shall execute them promptly, without wavering or hesitation. I shall not give in to this bad habit which has been controlling me. I shall do that only of which reason and conscience approve.”

In order to be more specific and systematic and to obtain results more surely and quickly, concentrate upon one weakness at a time. When that has been overcome, take up another one, until in this way you have attained perfect control over your thoughts, feelings and actions.

Suppose you have acquired the habit of remaining in bed and dozing after your mental alarm clock has given its signal to arise and you dread the effort of going through your morning exercises and ablutions. Then, the night before, impress upon the subconscious mind deeply and firmly the following suggestions: “Tomorrow morning, on awakening, I shall jump out of bed without hesitation and go through my morning exercises with zest and vigor.”

Or, suppose you are subject to the fear and worry habit. Say to yourself: “Tomorrow or any time thereafter when depressing, gloomy thoughts threaten to control me, I shall overcome them with thoughts of hope and faith, and with absolute confidence in the Divine power of the will within me to overcome and to achieve.”

In this manner you may give the subconscious mind suggestions and impressions for overcoming bad habits and for establishing and strengthening good habits.

If a serious problem is confronting you, and you are unable to solve it to your satisfaction, think upon it just before you are dropping off to sleep and confidently demand that the right solution come to you during the hours of rest. The inner consciousness is always awake. It is the watchman who awakens you at the appointed time in the morning. It will work upon your problem while your physical brain is asleep. In this lies the psychological justification for the popular phrase: “Before I decide the matter I’ll sleep over it.”

In the practice of mental magic, as in everything else, success depends upon patience and perseverance. It would be entirely useless to go through these mental drills occasionally and in a desultory fashion; but if persisted in faithfully and intelligently, they will prove truly magical in their effects upon the development of willpower and self-control, and on these depend the mastery of conditions within and without, the conquest of fate and destiny.
